It was a big week for public research talks on Swivel-related topics. In addition to Infovis, which Brent blogged about, I was invited to give the opening Keynote speech at IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM).
I spoke about the motivations and challenges for technology in collaborative data analysis and visualization, with a tilt toward inspiring more data mining research in this space. Just for fun, I drew inspiration from both French Literary Criticism and Stephen Colbert to explain why it's OK (in fact, a real good thing) that Swivel and friends are not trying to be traditional Data Warehouses.
