Buzzin' about energy data

With the recent boom in oil prices and environmental awareness, we've recently seen plenty of interest around energy data at Swivel.

If you've ever thought about monitoring energy use, Using Key Performance Indicators to Manage Energy Costs, by J.C. Van Gorp, is an excellent introduction to the subject.

Van Gorp describes that it's easy to collect huge amounts of energy data, but "many energy managers find themselves drowning in the volume of data generated."

He then outlines how you can distill this data into a set of "key performance indicators" that give you a solid understanding of your energy consumption.

Van Gorp's methodology is particularly interesting to us at Swivel because it requires both public and private data. In order to understand your (private) energy bills, you need to see it in context of the (public) outside temperature.
